Right from the start, the DJI Neo 2 and DJI Mini 4K reflect two very different visions of the compact drone. The Neo 2 adopts a one-piece structure with integrated propeller guards, designed for rapid take-off and reduced handling. The Mini 4K, on the other hand, follows the classic folding format of DJI drones: folding arms, slimmer silhouette when folded and more traditional design.
The main difference is in terms of size. Folded up, the Mini 4K becomes much more compact, slipping easily into a small case or bag. The Neo 2, on the other hand, retains its fixed size as it does not fold, even if its overall format remains contained.

This is where the two drones’ philosophies really diverge.
The DJI Neo 2 is all about versatility. It can be used in many different ways:

On paper, the difference in autonomy between the DJI Neo 2 and the DJI Mini 4K is significant. The Neo 2 relies on a small 1606 mAh battery, with official autonomy announced at 19 minutes (around 17 minutes with propeller protection), a value consistent with its ultra-compact format and its orientation towards shorter or spontaneous flights. The Mini 4K, with a more generous 2250 mAh battery, claims around 31 minutes flight time in ideal conditions.
In the field, the difference remains perceptible. While the advertised figures correspond to ideal conditions, user feedback and independent tests show more realistic values. The DJI Neo 2 generally achieves a flight time of around 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the mode used, wind conditions and altitude. The DJI Mini 4K’s autonomy is usually between 20 and 25 minutes in practice. The difference is clear: the Mini 4K allows longer sessions, while the Neo 2 is more geared to short, spontaneous flights.
DJI does not provide official recharging data for the Mini 4K. For the Neo 2, on the other hand, official figures are available: around 70 minutes to recharge a single battery via USB-C, and around 68 minutes to recharge three batteries via the dedicated charging station. Many users who have experimented with charging the Mini 4K report charging times in practice of around1h20 to 1h30 with a standard USB-C charger, but these figures depend on the charger used and are not certified by DJI.

In terms of pure performance, the DJI Mini 4K has a slight advantage in horizontal speed. It can reach up to 16 m/s (≈ 57 km/h), compared with 12 m/s (≈ 43 km/h) for the DJI Neo 2. This difference can make all the difference when it comes to covering an area quickly or following a fast-moving subject. The Neo 2 remains more moderate, more in keeping with its versatile orientation and automated modes.
Vertical speeds are very similar. Both drones climb to 5 m/s, while descent is slightly faster on the Mini 4K(3.5 m/s vs. 3 m/s for the Neo 2). The difference is small, however, and does not fundamentally alter the piloting experience.
With regard to wind resistance, both models are rated for 10.7 m/s (level 5) according to the manufacturer’s data. Photo and video modes
In terms of photo modes, the two drones take a different approach.
The DJI Mini 4K offers the classic functions of the Mini range: single shot, interval shooting and AEB (automatic exposure bracketing), an interesting option for recovering more dynamic range in post-processing. It is aimed more at those who wish to retouch their images or optimize exposure.
The DJI Neo 2, on the other hand, remains simpler in traditional photography(single shot and intervals), but introduces a mode more geared towards rapid creation: SelfieShot. Subject follow-up
This is clearly one of the DJI Neo 2’s strong points .
It incorporates tracking capable of keeping a subject in motion at up to 12 m/s, with specific modes for cycling or skiing, designed for dynamic practices. The angle of tracking can be adjusted via the app (front, back, side…), as can distance and height, allowing true creative control without interrupting recording.
According to numerous independent tests and user feedback, the Neo 2’s algorithm is one of the most advanced currently available for a drone of this size. It is more logical in its trajectories, avoids haphazard shortcuts and maintains fluid framing even when the subject changes direction.
The DJI Mini 4K, on the other hand, offers no active tracking. If your aim is to film yourself in action without a dedicated pilot – sport, hiking, biking, running – the choice becomes pretty obvious.
Obstacle detection
On this point, the difference is clear.
The DJI Neo 2 is the only one of the two to incorporate a genuine obstacle detection system. It combines omnidirectional monocular vision, a LiDAR and a lower infrared sensor. Pod, sensor and resolutions
In terms of hardware, the two drones adopt different approaches.
The DJI Neo 2 is based on a 2-axis mechanical gondola (tilt and roll), complemented by electronic stabilization on the pan axis. The DJI Mini 4K, on the other hand, benefits from a complete 3-axis mechanical gondola, giving it a theoretical advantage in terms of pure stabilization, particularly when moving sideways or in irregular wind conditions.
On the sensor side, the Neo 2 features a 1/2-inch sensor, slightly larger than the 1/2.3-inch of the Mini 4K. On paper, this gives it a slight advantage in light capture. The aperture is also brighter on the Neo 2(f/2.2 vs. f/2.8), which may help in less favorable conditions.
The optics, on the other hand, are markedly different. Image quality
In daylight, both drones produce clean images that can be used for leisure or social networking purposes. Colors are well saturated, contrast is strong and the images are immediately ready to share without retouching.
The DJI Neo 2 delivers a punchy image, with dynamic rendering and high contrast. According to published tests and user feedback, image processing has been significantly improved compared to the first generations of Neo. Details are clearly present in good light, and the overall rendering is designed to be effective without the need for post-production.
The DJI Mini 4K, on the other hand, offers a more neutral and natural image. The rendering sometimes appears a little less dynamic, but retains a good level of detail in favorable conditions. In more complex situations (backlighting, lower light levels), it can more quickly show its limitations, with more visible noise and a loss of sharpness in dark areas.
When it comes to photography, the Mini 4K retains an important advantage: the ability to capture in RAW (DNG) in addition to JPEG. This makes it possible to recover more information in post-processing, and to adjust exposure, white balance and color with greater freedom. The Neo 2 remains limited to JPEG, which simplifies use but reduces the scope for retouching.
In video, neither model offers a LOG or flat profile. They both use standard, ready-to-use rendering. This facilitates use for beginners, but limits the possibilities of advanced calibration for more professional use.
