Introduced with the release of the DJI Mini 2, the DJI RC-N1 radio control marked a clear improvement over previous DJI remotes and quickly became THE standard radio control of the brand. It is also the one that can be used with the largest number of different DJI drones, thanks to its compatibility with the different transmission systems O2, O3 and O3+ of the manufacturer.

It does not have a screen, so you have to connect your smartphone to receive the image captured by the drone and access the various settings, but its spring clip provided for this purpose, located on the top edge, is very convenient. Ergonomic, it holds very well in hand and allows a precise control of the drone.

DJI RC-N2 remote control

The DJI RC-N2 radio control is an update of the DJI RC-N1. Arriving with the release of the DJI Air 3, the purpose of this remote control is to introduce the next generation of the manufacturer’s video transmission system, namely DJI O4. The new system supports an additional frequency band in Europe (5.1 GHz).

The RC-N1’s physical characteristics have been retained, and the only differences with the old model are on the inside: its transmission system has been updated, and the antenna system has been upgraded from 1T2R to 2T2R, for a range of up to 20km FCC / 10km CE and a more stable link.

DJI Smart Controller

Launched in January 2019, the DJI Smart Controller radio control was initially intended for the Mavic 2 series. Various updates then allowed it to be compatible with the Mavic Air 2, the Phantom 4, then the Mini 2 and the Air 2S. DJI stopped marketing this remote control in August 2021.

The Smart Controller has a large, ultra-bright (1000 cd/m²) 5.5-inch touch screen. It incorporates an Android operating system that allows it to be scalable, since you can install third-party applications such as Facebook or Instagram, in order to directly post photos and videos online.

The DJI RC radio control is the latest control system with a built-in screen offered by DJI. It was introduced by the manufacturer with the release of its latest addition to the Mini series, the DJI Mini 3 Pro. Available in the Fly More package of the drone but also alone, its latest updates allow it to be compatible with other models, such as the Air 2S or the Mavic 3.

Like the DJI RC-N2, the DJI RC 2 remote control was introduced at the same time as the latest version of DJI’s “Air” drone range, the DJI Air 3. This is the update of the DJI RC with the firm’s new DJI O4 video transmission system, offering an additional frequency band in Europe (5.1 GHz), a more reliable connection, and a maximum range extended to 20km FCC and 10km CE.

This update is accompanied by a few physical changes, the most obvious being the addition of two external folding antennas on top of the radio control unit, designed to improve transmission stability.

The DJI FPV Radio Remote Control 2 was launched to coincide with the release of the first drone created by DJI to offer an FPV experience to the general public, the DJI FPV. It is delivered by default with the drone, and is also available alone for owners of the latest FPV drone of the brand, the DJI Avata.

The DJI FPV V2 is a simple remote control, which takes the form of a video game console remote control, and without screen of course, since the pilot receives the image directly in the helmet provided with the drone. But its simplicity is matched only by its efficiency, with proven joysticks that offer fluid and precise control.

Launched at the same time as the DJI Avata 2 drone, this third version of the remote control, inspired by a video game controller and originally introduced with the DJI FPV, features a very similar design to its predecessors.

Newly released in April 2023, the DJI RC Motion 2 is the second joystick-style controller produced by DJI. It replaces the DJI Motion Controller.

This new version adds new functions that were absent from the first Motion Controller, such as the ability to move the drone backwards using a new trigger that can be pulled towards you, a new mini joystick for up, down and horizontal movement to the left and right, and a new FN wheel for adjusting live camera settings.

Released in April 2024 alongside the DJI Avata 2, the DJI RC Motion 3 is distinguished by its new design. More compact, lighter and more ergonomic, it is designed to offer optimum grip.

Nevertheless, it retains the interface of its predecessor, the RC Motion 2, with its versatile forward and reverse triggers. Equipped with the DJI O4 transmission system, the RC Motion 3 also introduces the simplified Acro mode, enabling novice FPV pilots to easily perform aerial tricks such as flips, barrels and 180° drifts at the touch of a button, offering a rewarding and accessible aerobatic experience.
