Potensic ATOM 2, complete review: what’s new?
The first ATOM had already taken DJI Mini by surprise. Now it’s time for the Potensic ATOM 2: still ultra-compact, still weighing under 250 g… but with a few new features. So, simple update or real evolution? What does this second generation bring? Is this the drone for you? Answer in this article!
Potensic ATOM 2: What you need to know
The Potensic ATOM 2 retains the compact, foldable design of the first model, still weighing in at under 250 g, with a meticulous finish. It comes with a new, more ergonomic remote control, and works with the intuitive Potensic Eve application. In flight, it remains very stable, with good wind resistance.
Features include QuickShots enriched with a Dolly Zoom effect, as well as more advanced subject tracking, capable of lateral tracking or via Spotlight mode. The camera improves with a 1/2-inch sensor, 4K video at 30 fps at 80 Mb/s, slow-motion mode up to 5x, photos up to 48 MP and digital zoom up to 4x. Image quality is enhanced by HDR mode, night mode and the forthcoming arrival of a P-Log profile. Claimed battery life is up to 32 minutes.
Potensic ATOM 2 : Design

| Weight | < 249 g |
| Dimensions folded | 88 × 143 × 58 mm |
| Dimensions unfolded (without / with propellers) | 210 × 152 × 58 mm / 300 × 242 × 58 mm |
There’s no revolution in the design of this Potensic ATOM 2. The format is exactly the same as that of the first generation, with a compact, folding design and a well-groomed appearance. The materials used still inspire confidence, with a serious finish that has nothing to envy from competing models.
Weighing less than 249g, the drone remains in the C0 category, which means it benefits from more flexible regulations in Europe – like the DJI Mini. That said, like all C0 drones, it remains subject to a maximum flight height of 120 meters.
Potensic ATOM 2 : Radio remote control

| Video transmission system | PixSync 4.0 |
| Max. transmission distance | 10 km |
| Video transmission quality | 1080p |
| Compatible phones | Length: 170 mm Width: 100 mm Thickness: 12.5 mm |
The Potensic ATOM 2 is accompanied by an all-new radio control system, with a rethought design that remains faithful to the approach of the first model. It features a sliding bracket to position the smartphone in the center, for better balance and comfortable in-flight viewing.
The grip is pleasant and ergonomically enhanced by the addition of two thumbwheels: one for camera tilt, the other for zoom. Two customizable buttons (C1 and C2) let you adjust functions to suit your preferences, and can even be coupled to the thumbwheels for even greater flexibility. Another plus: the sensitivity of the joysticks and knobs can be adjusted, allowing you to fine-tune the drone’s behavior.
This radio control works with the new Potensic Eve application, an intuitive, well-designed interface that facilitates access to the various settings and flight modes.
On the technical side, the remote control is based on the PixSync 4.0 system, enabling smooth 1080p video transmission up to 10 km (FCC standard).
Potensic ATOM 2: In-flight performance
| Maximum speed | 16 m/s |
| Max. ascent speed | 5 m/s |
| Max. descent speed | 4 m/s |
| Max. wind resistance | 38 km/h (level 5) |
In terms of flight, the Potensic ATOM 2 follows the same basic principles as its predecessor – and that’s a good thing. The drone proves stable, reliable and responsive in all circumstances, with no unpredictable behavior or stalls. In-flight sensations are reassuring, even for less experienced pilots.
Three flight modes are available: Video, Normal and Sport. Video mode reduces speed to allow more progressive movements, ideal for fluid shots. However, the highly responsive joysticks may take a little getting used to. As mentioned above, their sensitivity can be adjusted via the Potensic Eve app: we recommend that you fine-tune these settings according to your preferences to achieve perfectly fluid control.
Sport mode, meanwhile, lets you exploit the full power of the ATOM 2, with a maximum speed of 16 m/s, a climb rate of 5 m/s and a descent rate of 4 m/s. So you can have fun in the air, while staying in control.
Its level 5 wind resistance (up to 38 km/h) is average for drones weighing less than 250 g, enabling it to remain effective in moderately windy conditions.

- Interval
- Panorama (wide-angle, vertical, 180° and Sphere – an immersive 360° view)
A classic but complete package, suitable for both landscapes and more dynamic scenes.
Videos: slow motion and QuickShots
The ATOM 2 features a slow-motion mode, allowing you to film up to 5x slower for effective slow-motion effects, especially in action scenes.
It also incorporates six QuickShots for capturing stylized automated shots: Pull-away, Rocket, Circle, Spiral, Boomerang, and a newcomer, Dolly Zoom. The latter creates an impressive visual distortion effect: the subject remains centered in the frame while the background appears to contract or stretch, for a highly cinematic effect.
Subject tracking: smarter, more flexible
The Potensic ATOM 2’s tracking system goes one step further than that of the first model. It is capable of tracking people, vehicles, animals or other detectable shapes, with the option of doing so from behind or in parallel, for more dynamic side shots.
Tracking works effectively at speeds of up to 35-40 km/h, which is sufficient for following a moving car or bicycle. On the other hand, for safety reasons linked to the absence of obstacle sensors, the angle of view is limited to between -75° and -25°, forcing the drone to remain at a certain height in relation to the target.
Another interesting addition is Spotlight mode. Here, the drone remains motionless in flight, while pivoting on itself to keep the subject in frame. A practical mode for filming an animated scene without changing position.
Fast transfer with SmartTransfer
Finally, the SmartTransfer mode lets you quickly retrieve photos and videos from your smartphone, via the Potensic Eve application, at speeds of up to 25 Mb/s. Perfect for those who want to share their images quickly without the need for a computer.
Potensic ATOM 2 : Autonomy
| Battery | 2230 mAh |
| Autonomy | 32 minutes |
| Charging time | 1 hour 20 minutes (via charging station) |
The Potensic ATOM 2 is equipped with a 2230 mAh battery, with a claimed maximum flight time of 32 minutes. As usual, this figure is theoretical: most tests report a real-world autonomy between 20 and 25 minutes, depending on the flight mode, wind conditions, and pilot behaviour. This matches what was observed with the first ATOM and remains in line with other drones in this category.
On the other hand, charging time is pretty quick: it takes around 1h20 for a full charge. Better still, if you opt for the pack with charging station, you can recharge up to three batteries in a row, so you can string together sessions without too much downtime.

Sensors and resolutions
The Potensic ATOM 2 features a new 1/2-inch sensor, larger than that of the ATOM 1 (1/3-inch). This change translates into better light management, a wider dynamic range and an overall improvement in rendering.
The drone is capable of filming up to 4K at 30 fps, with a bit rate of 80 Mb/s – a clear improvement on the 50 Mb/s of the previous model. The result: more detailed videos, especially in areas rich in textures.
On the photo front, the ATOM 2 boasts up to 48 MP and can shoot in JPG + RAW (DNG).
Finally, the digital zoom reaches up to 4x in Full HD, 3x in 2.7K and 2x in 4K.
Image quality
Visual rendering is quite flattering, both on a smartphone and on a larger screen. Images are crisp and well-defined, with pronounced processing: saturated colors, strong contrasts, for a “ready-to-share” effect that will appeal to a wide audience. This processing is even more pronounced than on the first ATOM.
To improve shots in difficult conditions, the drone offers :
- A video HDR mode, effective against the light to balance dark and bright areas.
- A night mode (AI Night), which pushes ISO up to 25600 to improve the legibility of low-light scenes.
Finally, Potensic announces the forthcoming arrival of a P-Log profile, a flat color profile designed for users who wish to rework their videos in post-production. It preserves more information in highlights and lowlights – ideal for careful color grading. This mode was not yet available at the time of testing.

Conclusion Potensic ATOM 2: Should you give in?
The Potensic ATOM 2 builds on the solid foundations of the first model with a number of notable improvements. Its new 1/2-inch sensor, slow-motion mode, more advanced tracking and the arrival of features such as HDR and SmartTransfer make it more versatile and appealing to both occasional and regular content creators.
Its price positioning places it between the DJI Mini 4K and the Mini 3, making it an interesting alternative for those looking for a good compromise between performance and budget. It retains a real identity, with an intuitive application, well thought-out radio control and good stability in flight. Admittedly, we’d have liked to see the return of Waypoint mode, but the promise of a future update offers some hope in that respect.
Also worth noting: with the ATOM 2, Potensic launches Potensic Careits first genuine after-sales service, including simplified exchanges in the event of hardware problems and professional assistance. An important step forward for the brand, which strengthens user confidence.
